You are not required to be a member in good standing, if you choose to be a non-member. You only have to declare what you would like to be, but by law you still receive all the benefits Union members get, including representation for any grievance that help may be needed. With that understood the Union has the right to charge any non-member a service fee equal to the dues paid by members.
